Adventure Summary: 12/18/10
The party investigated the room where Calanion was last seen. Both Antaris and Ishtarel noticed evidence that Cal had been removed from the room and up a flight of stairs leading to the surface. The group rushed to try and help the captured brother of Antaris, and discovered that the Gnome and his hostage was just about to make a get-away in his airship. Ishtarel then transformed into a young Gold Dragon and took flight in an attempt to rescue Cal. She successfully removed Cal from the airship which then made an expeditious retreat from the city. Cal was in bad shape from being tortured, so Valiant and Gnorm were able to assist with healing.
After attending to Cal, the party had a discussion with both Cal and the young Gold known as Turu Xifi (in common "Dawn Guardian"). Cal is aware that what the party is working to help remain hidden from the Black Circle mages is a powerful relic of an old sun god that has become associated with Lathander/Amaunator. Turu knows the other half of the story, and confides with Cal and the group that she was entrusted with her part of the artifact (the Orb from Windbourne, other known as the "The Heart of Pelor") many hundreds of years ago when its guardianship changed hands. Other parts are known of, but as to location they remain somewhat of a mystery at this point. The others being the "The Body" of Pelor and "The Head" of Pelor. Together, they form a staff which is purported to have untold divine magical ability. However, while both Cal and Turu know that the powerful Pelorian staff was lost to the ages, they are familiar with rumors and legends surrounding its use. It was supposedly used to bring Age old Heroes of the Deities back to life and fight for them, although the details of how and why remain a mystery at this point in time. Other than the "The Heart" the other artifact piece, "The Blood", is a ruby that Gnorm is aware of through his solving of unlocking the map within the Holy Symbol.
Turu entrusted the Orb to Cal and the party knowing that Evermeet is one of the safest locations in the realm for the pieces of the staff. Turu will be leaving the Nelanther Isles to go back to Windbourne and do what she can to help protect and rebuild the valley which is her home. She will also report the status of the party to the villagers of Windbourne.
It is also surmised that the Baron's involvement with the Black Circle may be due to his dead son Johann. Cal thinks that the Baron might be able to utilize the artifact to recall his dead son.
As the players wandered through the city, they noticed that amidst the ruins they appeared to all have a magical warding on them that can best be described as “immovable” and “sturdy”. They eventually discovered that at the heart of the city beneath one of the governmental buildings, connected to a mythallar buried beneath the city, is a set of arcane crystals within a control panel that, when undamaged, allow the mythallar collected magical energy to float the city up out of the jungle, much like the floating cities of Netheril in an age past.
The city was actually built near Evereska 2000 of years ago and went on a voyage with humans to land in the Nelanther Isles to establish a foothold and hopefully convert the Isles from a den of pirates and maliciousness marauding, to something more civilized. Obviously, due to internal strife, that did not happen and the city was abandoned.
After repairing the basic controls and navigation of the city, Kalindor, after making several successful skill checks, managed to get the city afloat several hundred feet in the air above the Isles. The party left the Orb with Cal to deliver back to Evermeet, and the group makes it's preparation to visit the Elven Homelands themselves and take the old city with them!
