Adventure Summary - 08/06/11

The group ventured forth through the hidden portal that was uncovered at the top of the lighthouse. Stepping through it, the party members noticed that passing through the portal gave them a gloomy oily feeling, as if walking through a mist shrouded in darkness.
After passing through, the party emerged into a gloomy room, littered with broken rocks and stones, and what appeared to be a large rocky cavernous roof overhead. The party moved forth finding statues of a previous adventurers that had fallen to a protective entrance that guarded what lay beyond, a smoothed door with no handles or knobs but the fanged face of a Medusa peering out with a piercing gaze.
Kiva, working with Antaris, produced a small mirror which caused the once perfect smooth stone to age and crack horrendously. Once weakened, Valiant was able to break through the door without further incident.
What appeared beyond was an even larger dark cavern, illuminated by a muted greenish-blue glow from lichen and crystals growing on the ceiling and cavern floor. What they saw was a entire port town, once containing a vibrant community of elves torn asunder from its seaside location and violently moved several miles below the earth in the channel that separates the main island of Evermeet and Sumbrar.
This cataclysmic event coupled with the reemerging of Abeir with Toril and the outbreak of the spellplague doomed the town of Ingwhich (which Antaris discovered while scouting out buildings and streets) and it's population. Disruption of magic due to the death of Mystra impeded attempts to save the elves trapped within the buried town. However, facing the destruction of Sumbrar (the elven military stronghold), the death or disappearance of the last 12 dragons of Evermeet from the island fortress, and the breaking of portals that allowed the Eladrin to move from the Feywild to the Prime consumed the resources of the surviving elves and much to their dismay efforts were called off to rescue survivors of Ingwhich.
Over the decades, it was eventually discovered that the mass death and destruction of the town coupled with the events of the spellplague attracted evil entitles that fed upon the death and despair of the small surviving group of elves that attempted to escape from the ruins of the lost town. With its close approximation to lost Sumbrar, the elves have sadly written off Ingwhich and any attempts to recover the once prestigious coastal town. The lighthouse itself stands a grim reminder of the elves failing, but Evermeet as whole is on the defensive, its war with the Fomorians intensifying and their Elvish enclaves on the Prime diminishing.
After Antaris had divulged this historic information to the rest of the group, and being unable to return due to the gate closed behind them, the group went forth to inspect the town and see if they could find another way out. Kallindor threw boxes of stones and other noise-making actions to see if it attracted any of the denizens that had made their home here.
The party actually was surprise attacked by a group of rock hurling gargoyles, pitching stones at them from edges of buildings. The fighting escalated to also attract a group of elven vampires, causing various issues for the party as they continued the battle into the evening.
The evening left off mid-battle to be concluded next session.
