The party valiantly continued its foray into the lighthouse. The lighthouse use to overlook the elven coastal town of Ingwhich, but has since been lost in the wake of the spell-plague.
The group rested and ate before tackling the front doors to the lighthouse. Antaris and Kiva checked the doorway diligently with Antaris discovering and disabling a nasty trap set to spring on those foolish enough to simply to try and walk in. Upon entering the ground floor of the structure, the party was greeted with a musty, cobweb laden entry way. Two passages lead below the ground floor, and one majestic spiral staircase spun upwards to the top of the house leading to the floors between and eventually the lamp room at the very top.
Some of the group investigated a room off to the side of the main floor and discovered a grotesque collection of corpses both elven and animal in various stages of decay. While some of the party members looked into this, Elmmorra caught a small sound out of the gloom at the very last moment before being pounced upon, above and below, by feral elven undead creatures later identified to be corpse vampires. A predatory, animalistic kind of undead blood-sucker that preys upon those hapless enough to stumble across their path.
They attacked the Druid with vicious skill, one of them burrowing beneath the ground to surprise other members. The party fought a short battle, killing one of the undead and chasing the other one off.
That encounter over, the party finished their reconnaissance of the ground floor. Elmmorra noticed that located in another room was wash area with a basin. Within the slightly ruddy water of the basin something glinted at the bottom. Requesting the aid of the Rogues, Antaris threw his grappling hook into the basin and attempted to topple it over, but it would not budge, even with Valiant's help.
Valiant went over to kick the basin, but was surprise attacked by a water weird inhabiting the basin. It immobilized the paladin and did ongoing damage while the rest the group figured out how to stop it. Antaris saw some elven script on the side of the basin which read: "Give me something of value, and that which you value will be returned". Elmmorra tried dropping in a gold piece to no effect. Antaris sacrificed his Cat Step boots, and the weird released the paladin, deposited the ring upon the floor and withheld the boots within.
The ring was discovered to be a Ring of Feather Fall, and Antaris maintained possession of it.
After searching the ground floor, the party ascended to the 2nd floor of the lighthouse, and came upon an area with bathing/refreshing facilities and an opulent dining area flanked with statues of ancient elven nobles and royalty. Valiant and Antaris delved into the history of one of the statues, a Lelune Avendial, and in the course of determining her history a Valiant discovered the statue was crying, and within moments a water sodden apparition detached itself from the statue, dripping ecto-plasmic water onto the tile floor, looking upon Valiant she whispered a vengeful oath and began an attack while two other ghostly opponents left the statues as well.
They fought a good battle with the angry spirits, dispersing two, while the last one phased into the rock of the lighthouse wall. They gathered themselves in a group before commencing to finish exploration of the 2nd floor, and then eventually on to the upper levels.
